New Pups    Starting Pups     Goat Dogs     Sheep Dogs     Cow Dogs

Foundation training prepares a pup to become a working stock dog. At seven weeks old, pups will be learning to stay with you, off leash, while walking in the yard, woods and fields. By the time pups are eight weeks old, they can respond to simple commands such as back, to back away from a gate or door, stay, come, get in the pen, and "ahh" or "no" to stop an action. Pups are naturally tuned in to energy, tones and body language. When mindfully incorporated within our daily interactions, these methods of communication will enhance bonding with people and ease the transition of the pup taking direction from its mother to the pup taking direction from a person. The pups in the following pictures were prepared to acknowledge and respond to balanced, positive and negative energies before they were allowed near livestock.

The dogs used to help the pups are trained for their purpose, to aide and protect, to stay out of the way when appropriate and ready to react when necessary.  Brief encounters with livestock were enjoyed by the pups, keeping their mental and physical health in mind.  Neither pups nor dogs are ever allowed to roam or work livestock unattended.
